Serving up high-energy, low-down blues, the Critical Blues Band pays tribute to the giants of blues, past and present, by delivering the power and passion of America’s greatest contribution to the world of music. From Muddy Waters and Junior Wells to Howling Wolf, John Lee Hooker and Freddy King, The Critical Blues Band brings the blues to life with fire and feeling.

The band’s distinct sound starts with the intuitive guitar work of Peter Ehrlich, who delivers his rhythmic and lead interplay with electricity one moment and a velvet touch the next. The rhythm section is held down low and tight by Matt McConnel on bass, Jason “The Foundation” Plankey on drums, and Kent Howes on percussion. The trio are the true engineers on this blues locomotive, masterfully keeping the machine moving at full power. Rounding out the group is Gary Fulkerson who takes on harp and lead singing duties with an intention that forces the audience to feel each word and every note.

Formed in 2023, The Critical Blues Band has built a loyal fanbase of those who share their love for blues. Every show provides audiences with an electric homage to a timeless tradition, that somehow, feels more relevant than ever. The Critical Blues Band is proof that the blues isn’t simply a genre of music. It is a way of life.
